A. Tree will be planted with the top of the root ball or root flare level with existing grade and oriented in direction that the “best side” can be seen from the “best view” (SEE STANDARD DETAIL TREE PLANTING 6-A). B. Top half of wire basket and burlap SHALL be cut back and removed along with all potential girdling twine. C. Water rings or watering bags: • Watering bags: may be used to assist in watering trees during warranty period. • Water ring: 2” maximum height at outside edge of root ball using excess soil. All excess soil not used for constructing the water ring shall be hauled away by contractor. IF CONSTRUCTED, WATER RING SHALL BE REMOVED AT END OF WARRANTY PERIOD. D. Mulch with 3” to 4” of shredded hardwood mulch or recycled wood chips, keeping mulch away from root collar, but providing coverage to outside of planting hole. Wood chip mulch will be provided in bulk by the City but must be loaded and dispersed by the contractor. E. Trees are to be watered at time of planting and throughout the term of this contract. Supplemental watering shall be performed weekly during any week in which the total local rainfall is less than 2”.
