According to the United States Department of Agriculture Economic Research Service (USDA-ERS), food insecurity is “a household-level economic and social condition of limited or uncertain access to adequate food” due to a lack of available financial resources, competing demands for those resources, and the cost of acquiring food. Children from food insecure households are more likely to suffer health, mental and developmental problems that can negatively impact their growth and ability to learn. It is the City’s goal to have a community-based program for child nutrition outreach and education that will ensure the students of Goldsboro receive a nutritional balance meal and are educated on making food choices for a healthy lifestyle
