Project Overview
The City of Jacksonville Police Department is a career department which is currently staffed with a Chief, a Deputy Chief, 3 Captains, 9 Lieutenants, 14 Sergeants, with a total staffing of 158 including sworn and non-sworn personnel. The Department provides police services for the City of Jacksonville including E911 services for Police and Fire. The Department will be adding a 4th Captain position immediately and is expecting a Lieutenant retirement within the upcoming year. Should the Captain position be filled internally this will also create the respective Lieutenant and Sergeant openings.
Appointment of supervisory ranks is the responsibility of the Chief of Police, with approval from the City Manager. The Assessment Center is intended as a tool to aid the Chief of Police in making a final decision. Results of the Assessment Center will be shared with the Chief of Police, Deputy Chief and Chief Human Resources Officer.
The Department desires quick implementation to fill the Captain position. The remaining assessment centers for Lieutenant and Sergeant will occur at a later time, but within the upcoming year.
