Specifications include, but are not limited to: • Tree cutting must not occur in wetland areas unless approved by OPRHP. • If the Contractor identifies a marked tree which is too dangerous to cut or work around and will impact the completion of the contract, the Contractor must notify OPRHP. o If the hazardous situation cannot be resolved or mitigated, NYS OPRHP (upon consultation with the Contractor) will decide on an acceptable solution. • The Contractor must not leave trees or treetops hung up in the area, and must pull any hung trees, tree tops, or limbs down immediately. • The Contractor will fell marked trees as designated. o Trees will be marked at breast height (+/- 4.5 feet above ground). Girdling live trees as an alternative to felling will not be permitted. o Duties related to the felling and handling of trees shall include but are not limited to: The use of chainsaws Mechanized felling and harvesting equipment Skidding and forwarding Slashing, chipping and stacking of forest products or any other method of felling Handling or removing trees o The Contractor shall top and limb all felled trees with slash cut so that no stem or limb extends above 3 feet from the ground. o Trees must be felled away from the trail, and where applicable, avoiding waterbodies, wetlands, recreation trails, roads, parking lots, private property, railways, power lines, and other infrastructure. o If a felled tree blocks a trail, parking lot, road, or other infrastructure, the Contractor will be required to move the downed tree immediately until the infrastructure is no longer impacted.
