1. Perform a total of two (2) test borings at each bridge site. One boring shall be taken at 25’ from each of the two existing bridge abutments in either shoulder area of the roadway. They shall be advanced to a depth of approximately 30’ or refusal, whichever is shallower. Sampling and testing of the overburden shall be performed continuously from 5’ to 30’ in accordance with ASTM D1586. If any unusual conditions are encountered during boring, the contractor shall contact Steuben County before proceeding. 2. Prepare a geotechnical engineering report for each bridge site including the test boring logs, description and evaluation of subsurface conditions, unit weight of soil, service bearing resistance of soil, allowable bearing pressures, coefficient of sliding (friction), water elevation, internal angle of friction, anticipated settlements, and all backup engineering computations. 3. Utility clearances and shall be the responsibility of the Contractor. Maintenance and Protection of Traffic shall be the responsibility of Steuben County with dates of work coordinated by the Contractor.
