ITEM #1 - COARSE ROCK SALT: Quality: Salt shall be coarse rock salt of approximately CC grade, for use in snow and ice control work, having not less than 97.5% sodium chloride. All salt delivered under this specification shall have been stored continuously in a watertight storage and shall be delivered to the purchaser's storage dry bin. Gradation: The salt shall conform to the following gradation requirements: 100% shall pass a 3/8" sieve, at least 85% shall pass a #4 sieve, not over 40% shall pass a #10 sieve, not over 4% shall pass a #30 sieve, not over 3/10 of 1% shall pass a #100 sieve. Quantity: The total season requirements are estimated at tons: 10,000 tons - purchased by the Washington County Dept. of Public Works. 9,555 tons - purchased by local municipalities Estimates are completely dependent on weather conditions. ITEM #2 - CRUSHED ROCK SALT & LIQUID DE-ICING COMPOUND MIXTURE: Salt shall be a mixture of sodium chloride type "A" crushed rock salt and liquid de-icing compound to control snow and ice on highways. Salt Specifications Chemical Composition: Shall be not less than 97.5% sodium chloride. Percent of sodium chloride shall be determined in accordance with current ASTM-D-632.
