Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Enhance parenting time available to parents by communicating with the Schenectady County Department of Social Services (DSS), the agency that coordinates the parenting time, to learn and understand what each parent is working to achieve; support these objectives during parenting time.; 2. Promote early engagement with parents who enter the FTC to facilitate parenting sessions.; 3. Discuss each parent’s individual priorities, observe their strengths and weaknesses, and discuss with them strategies for improving parent-child interactions, always working consistently with the plan developed by the Schenectady County DSS.; 4. Coach parents in improving problem-solving skills when relating to their children. ; 5. Provide strategies to parents whose mental health issues create safety concerns to their children.; 6. Facilitate parent attendance at parenting sessions, including providing transportation assistance, as necessary.; 7. Immediately prior to scheduled parenting time, assist each parent in structuring his or her time so it meets the needs of the children and the goals the parent is trying to achieve.; 8. Supervise parenting time sessions and utilize hands-on teaching and modeling before, during and after each session.; 9. Utilize hands-on teaching and modeling before, during and after each session.; 10. Incorporate evidence-based parenting skills into each parenting time session.; 11. Promote a safe and therapeutic parenting session.; 12. Engage in a short debriefing session following the parenting time, discussing successes, areas to continue to focus on, and future goals and plans.; 13. Assess the ongoing needs of parents, evaluate goal attainment, and determine any barriers that may impact the desired outcomes.; 14. Offer input to the Schenectady County DSS regarding observations relevant to parenting time frequency and level of supervision.; 15. Maintain project logs, reports and records in appropriate files and database(s) and provide continuous feedback to team members about the participants’ progress.; 16. Participate in regular team meetings.; 17. Assist in collecting and maintaining all data as required by OJJDP.; 18. Provide appropriate supervision and oversight for any staff included on this project.
