Specifications include, but are not limited to: Under the supervision of a Senior or Supervising Psychiatrist, or equivalent manager in the Mental Health Service of CHS, this position requires the provision of high-quality tele-psychiatry services for individuals incarcerated in the New York City jail system during the overnight shift. This includes but is not limited to initial psychiatric intakes, assessment of patients in receipt of urgent mental health referrals, and clinical interventions related to unexpected discharges. Experience working in correctional settings is not required, however the ability to work closely and effectively with multiple other disciplines, including security staff, from a remote location is critical. Responsibilities of the selected vendor include: ● Provide psychiatric care, including admission evaluations, and urgent and emergent consultations to individuals with mental health needs. ● Participate in the creation of an individualized treatment plan after collecting and reviewing psychosocial data, medical history, nursing assessment, and other pertinent information. ● Evaluate patients for the need for a higher level of care, including hospitalization. If a patient is hospitalized, provide justification for hospital admission and complete necessary steps required for hospital transfer in coordination with on-site staff. ● Integrate nursing and medical concepts in planning care for medically complicated psychiatric patients. ● Counsel patients using advanced psychotherapeutic techniques. ● Provide patient education, specifically around issues related to medications and treatment adherence, and aftercare services. ● Complete discharge prescriptions and evaluate the need for civil commitment for patients released from custody unexpectedly overnight. ● Document all activities in the electronic medical record in a timely, concise and clear manner. ● Provide real-time clinical consultation and support to overnight mental health staff including on-call psychiatric provider and any overnight mental health clinicians. ● Provide consultation and support to mental health, medical, and operations staff about clinical or administrative issues that arise overnight. Must be familiar with policies related to the Mental Health Service. ● Engage in clinical supervision, as indicated, with a Supervising or Senior psychiatrist or equivalent manager.
