Preferred Project Types (examples include, but are not limited to): ● Previously Identified Projects: Several plans and studies have been performed within these watersheds, which provide an opportunity to directly support efforts to protect Westchester County’s waterways. Studies have been performed by Westchester County, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Long Island Sound non-profits. Westchester County also funded the construction of aquatic restoration projects, which may be candidates for this effort. ● Green Infrastructure Development: Projects that enhance natural systems to manage stormwater runoff, reduce pollution, and improve water quality. These may include, but are not limited to, rain gardens, permeable pavements, bioswales, and innovative stormwater capture and filtration systems. ● Wetland Restoration & Creation: Projects focused on restoring or creating wetlands. ● Recreation and Public Access: Projects with an added benefit of increasing access to recreational opportunities for local communities such as bird watching, walking paths, and greenspaces. ● Riparian Restoration: Projects addressing erosion, habitat degradation, and flow issues in local streams and rivers, leading to improved aquatic health, which may include streambed and bank restoration, and increasing the riparian buffer area through plantings. ● Grey Infrastructure Improvements: Projects including, but not limited to, culvert rehabilitation, improving salt storage, outfall covers and filters. ● Pollution Source Reduction: Innovative projects that directly identify and mitigate specific sources of water pollution impacting tributaries to Long Island Sound that lie within the NRSD boundaries.
