Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Drivers shall be familiar with the current Vehicles and Traffic Law, Regulations of the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, and applicable Department of Transportation Regulations pertaining to pupil transportation. 2. Drivers shall be required to cooperate fully with participating School District(s) by assuring that students comply with their respective School District’s standards of behavior. Disciplinary problems shall be reported promptly to the contractor on the Bus Conduct Report Form (see Appendix C). The report in turn will be sent by the Contractor promptly to the Transportation Office of the participating School District for further action. 3. Drivers shall report all accidents, charges of motor vehicle infractions or violations, all unusual situations or trip interruptions to the contractor who will inform the participating School District’s Transportation Office. 4. Bus drivers shall present a neat appearance and must maintain a courteous attitude toward the public, school officials, and students, at all times. 5. Bus driver shall not smoke, eat, drink any liquid, be under the influence of a controlled substance or medication, or perform any act, or conduct themselves in any manner which may impair the safe operation of a school bus. Absolutely no smoking is allowed on the bus. “No Smoking” signs must be visible in vehicle. 6. Drivers shall report pupils who smoke or have lighted articles in the buses on the appropriate Bus Conduct Report Form (Appendix C), to the contractor, who will in turn send the report promptly to the Transportation Office of the participating school district for further action. See Appendix C as an example of this form. 7. Drivers are required to be in the bus during the loading and unloading of passengers to supervise such loading and unloading. Buses are never to be left unattended on school property unless ignition is off, emergency brake on, bus doors closed, and ignition keys in driver’s possession at all times. Buses with students on board will not be left unattended under any circumstances.
