The Manhattan Mental Health Court (MMHC) was launched as a pilot for felony offenders in March 2011. Mental health courts were created to address the gaps in services for defendants with Serious Mental Illness (SMI). The MMHC is a dedicated court designed to provide alternatives to incarceration for eligible defendants with SMI charged with felony offenses. NYC Health + Hospitals/Correctional Health Services (CHS) plans to enter into an agreement with a qualified vendor to provide clinical evaluations and service plans for prospective MMHC participants, as well as comprehensive case management services for admitted MMHC participants. It is anticipated that the Vendor will provide individualized and dynamic services, developing quality treatment plans, facilitating connections to care, and providing reports and participant status updates to the court.
