The Lyons Main Shop Building (7765 Dry Dock Rd, Lyons, NY) is exhibiting cracking and spalling off the existing block wall parging material. These cracks have the potential to allow water behind the parging and cause rapid deterioration due to freezing and thawing. This will further destabilize the structure of the building and could lead to more significant damages in the future. The loose material also poses a safety hazard and could hit pedestrians if it falls off the building. To mitigate this problem NYSCC is requesting localized replacement of parging on all four walls of the building with new parging. This will amount to approximately 6000 square feet of wall space that needs to be removed and parged. The parging will be replaced in kind with using the same color paint that the walls already use. This will have minimal effects on the appearance of the building, beyond removing the cracks. Existing parging is found to not contain asbestos. The existing loose parging will be removed and disposed of as C&D. Once old parging has been removed, surface shall be cleaned and prepped with surface bonding agent, new fiber reinforced parging will be applied to the walls to seal the concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls and prevent water from entering the cracks. Existing paint contains 30ppm of lead (see attached materials survey).
