Specifications include, but are not limited to: enhancing certain aspects of our current Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line. This project would expand the final stop in Schenectady, currently known as Gateway Plaza into an intermodal transit center that will be known as the Gateway Transit Center. The overall goal is to design an efficient, modern transit center providing customer comfort while they are waiting for inter-city and intra-city bus service. Adjustments to its size will occur as the service details are designed. Items such as flow of movement through the center, appropriate amenities, aesthetic image and various requirements of inter-city and intra-city services need to be considered when designing the passenger waiting area, bathrooms, a fare media sales area, roadway and traffic design and movement, security, landscaping, real time information displays, possibly covered or partially covered boarding and alighting areas, signage, etc., all wrapped in an energy efficient package. You will need to design the approaching roadway and flow to accommodate the bus routes and pedestrian accessibility.
