Specifications include, but are not limited to: Facility Requirements 1. To help ensure the safety of the facility, animals, students and instructors, it is highly important that student learning proximity be within the instructor’s visual awareness/contact at all times. 2. Location of work areas for student learning shall be either alleyway cross ties, tie rings in individual stalls or tie rings in the arena. 3. Indoor/outdoor enclosed riding area, preferably attached to the horse barn, room for set up of 60’ round pen (owned by MOBOCES) – used for free lunging, ground driving, lunging, in hand training and riding. 4. There shall be twelve (12) stalls, which shall be 12’ x 12’ (if students are working in pairs with horses tied in stall) or 10’ x 12’ to 10’ x 10’ (if students are working in pairs in alleyway). 5. Aisle way shall be a minimum of nine feet (9’) wide with room for students to work safely around horses. 6. There shall be a tack room, 15’ x 15’ to 20’ x 20’ for storage of tack and equine equipment. 7. There shall be an appropriate area for bathing of horses, including hot and cold water access and adequate drainage. 8. There shall be a heated bathroom for student use. 9. The facility shall be professional in appearance, properly insured and have passed a fire inspection. 10. There shall be a heated viewing room. (Preferred, Not Required) 11. Please provide any other equipment or amenities that provide additional educationally related opportunities for students. Animal Requirements 1. The Equine and Animal Science instructional program has need of eight to nine (8-9) horses. A minimum of eight (8) horses shall be provided by the Contractor. 2. All horses shall be appropriately aged and user appropriate for student instruction. The instructor shall have ultimate approval of horses to be used in instruction. All horses shall be habituated to tying, clipping, leg wrapping, TPR, tacking/saddle/bridle application, lunging/ground driving, free lunging and trailering. There shall be no stable vices including but not limited to kicking, rearing, biting, striking, pulling, stall aggression and charging.
