The vendor will provide a minimum of six (6) EDC initial trained (or equivalent) viable canine candidates on premise at the time the Department handlers/trainers visit to inspect for potential purchase. These six (6) canine candidates will be selected for advanced EDC (or equivalent) Canine and Handler Training. Canines must meet the following specifications: Canine – Breed and Health/Wellness 1. Canines must have a high drive and be of the sporting breeds (Labrador Retriever, German Short-haired Pointer, etc.). 2. The canine will be suitable for advanced training and to be certified as an Explosive Detection Canine (EDC) with the ability to be further trained to a Person Borne Explosive Detection (PBED) capability. 3. The canine will meet the needs of the New York City Police Department which include but are not limited to the following: must be social around people, no food or dog aggression; must be comfortable for deployments in large crowds; must be able to work in all types of different environments.
