Generally, the Work is grouped in three categories, i.e. Bridge Superstructure Work, Work on the Approaches, and Bridge Substructure Work. The nature and degree of the Work varies from bridge to bridge. The items of Work to be provided under above categories shall include but not be limited to the following: 1. The bridge Superstructure Work required at the various locations shall include but not be limited to the following: In multiple stages, removing existing asphalt/concrete pavements from the bridge deck and replacing with asphalt/concrete overlays. In multiple stages, repairing deteriorated areas of sidewalks, curbs and medians. In multiple stages, cleaning and sealing cracks in asphalt wearing surfaces and concrete overlays, and replacing existing asphalt and concrete wearing surfaces with thin polymer overlay or asphalt. Replacing or repairing existing concrete sidewalks and curbs with new sidewalks and curbs. In multiple stages, installing waterproofing membrane system. Cleaning, repairing, and in some locations replacing existing stone masonry. In multiple stages, rehabilitating joints as applicable. In multiple stages, installing and removing temporary supports. In multiple stages, existing bearing rehabilitation or replacement. In multiple stages, installing permanent pavement stripes and symbols as indicated on Plans. In multiple stages, removing and/or relocating utilities and lights, and installing new utilities and lights. Replacing or rehabilitating existing pedestrian ramp systems. 2. The Work on Approaches required at the various locations shall include, but not be limited to the following: • In multiple stages, reconstructing approach asphalt concrete roadway, including scarifying and resurfacing within limits indicated on Plans. • In multiple stages, reconstructing approach sidewalks and curbs. • In multiple stages, cleaning and resetting existing catch basins within the project limists as indicated on Plans. 3. The Bridge Substructure Work required at the various locations shall include, but not be limited to the following: • In multiple stages, repairing spalls and cracks on the exterior face of concrete abutment walls, pier walls, and wingwalls. • In multiple stages, cleaning, repairing and in some locations replacing existing stone masonry within limits indicated on the Plans. 4. In addition, the following Work shall be performed by the Contractor: • Environmental Remedy: The Work required for the environmental remedy includes, but is not limited to: i. Compliance with requirements of Special Provision 75, Project Safety and Health Plan and Section 832, Specification for Lead Paint Removal from Bridges. ii. Removal and treatment of contaminated or hazardous materials, including, asbestos-containing materials (ACM) and lea-based paint as per Appendix F Asbestos Containing Materials and Lead Containing Material Survey Report. iii. Performance of on-site testing (air-monitoring, etc.), necessary and ordered by the EIC. • Miscellaneous Work: The Work required for the environmental remedy includes but is not limited to: i. Incidental repairs ii. Necessary repairs for “flagged conditions”
