1. The entirety of this project shall be performed in accordance with these bid specifications. 2. The contractor’s responsibilities shall include, but is not limited to, the following pages of instructions/requirements for Maintenance Cleaning and Washing of Bridges and for NYSDOT Item 559.03 – Protective Sealing of existing Structural Concrete and existing Bridge Decks. 3. The contractor shall bear sole responsibility to furnish all of the following: labor, materials, equipment, mobilization, traffic control, insurance(s), permit(s), and all other ancillary items necessary to complete the project to the satisfaction of the Commissioner or his designee. The bidder shall include all costs associated with this clause in its “In Toto Price Bid per Specific Bridge”/”In Toto Price Bid per Unit”. 4. The Contractor will be allowed to apply for dispensation from the restrictions of the NYS Labor Law in order to employ workers for no more than (5) 10 hour days in any calendar week on this project. 5. In addition to the requirements of these bid specifications and Item 559.03, the contractor shall perform as follows: a. with regard to Bridge Cleaning & Washing: i. Clean out and ensure proper drainage of drain tube holes located in the underside of all prestressed- precast concrete beam structures. ii. Create positive drainage at all four corners of the bridge to ensure drainage away from the bridge and off the approach roadway and shoulders. iii. Remove any and all debris (including flood-related) from underside of bridge superstructures. iv. Power wash all concrete bridges per these bid specifications with the exception of the bridges that are to be sealed. Those bridges shall be pressure washed per these bid specifications. v. Power wash all painted steel bridges per these bid specifications. vi. Pressure Wash all weathering steel (A588) bridges per these bid specifications. vii. Reference – “Attachment # 1”. viii. Temporary bridge closures are required for single lane UBIU bridge washing operations. ix. Temporary bridge closure schedule will be given to County a min. 10 calendar days prior to closure. x. Any bridge closures will be scheduled between 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. b. with regard to Bridge Sealing; i. Seal the concrete bridge deck surface, sidewalks (if applicable), fascias, and the underside of the deck from the fascias to each drip groove. ii. Seal the surface of both concrete approach slabs (if applicable). iii. Sealer shall be applied in two coats; the second shall be applied perpendicular to the first. iv. Reference – “Attachment # 2”. 6. The contractor shall bear sole responsibility for the maintenance and protection of traffic in accordance with the Federal MUTCD, Section 619 – Work Zone Traffic Control of the NYSDOT Standard Specifications and these contract documents. a. The following exception to NYSDOT Standard Specifications Section 619 shall prevail: i. The contractor shall not be required to repair and/or maintain the surface of the traveled way. However, the contractor shall be required to repair damage resulting from its operations. b. All travel lanes and shoulders shall be cleared of all obstructions including traffic control devices, made safe for travel, and returned to service at the conclusion of each workday. c. Construction signs shall be furnished in accordance with NYSDOT Item 619.01. Signs shall be in use only when the contractor is working. d. Work Zones shall be set up in accordance with the current applicable NYSDOT Section 619 Series Standard Sheets.
