Building #604 is a national landmark, and as such, Parks is seeking an adaptive re-use and historic restoration of the building, including restoring windows and doors, repointing of the brick, a new roof, and an interior fit out that will accommodate the proposed new use. The public’s access to the building is essential for the success of a concession. Currently, the public is not permitted to enter Fort Totten without a parking pass. Therefore, Parks is looking for proposals that include addressing this access issue, either through a permitting system or by the relocation of the FDNY guard house located on Totten Avenue just south of the parking lots on the premises. If relocation of the guard house is proposed, the installation of a new security gate on Duane Road may be necessary to keep the remainder of Fort Totten secure and restricted from public access.
