The intent of these detailed requirements sections is to specify a complete Class 8 vocational trucks with an automated right side loading and waste compacting refuse body capable of collecting the contents from purpose-built bins staged along the right side of collection routes in New York City (NYC). The trucks must also be capable of being configured with an automated left side loading body which will be required when the “LEFT SIDE COLLECTION ARM” option package is selected. The trucks are also to be equipped with a snowplow hitch and be capable of clearing snow from NYC roadways in winter weather emergencies. The body is to be equipped with an articulating arm that has a mechanism capable of capturing and dumping into its hopper bins designed to the European standard EN-12574-1 for stationary waste containers (bins). Controls for the driver/operator at the seated driving position in the cab are to allow the driver to efficiently and safely position the vehicle and articulate the arm to capture the bins. Once the arm is activated, it is to become automated with one simple continuous input from its operator to complete a dump cycle. The cycle is to be considered complete when the bin’s contents are dumped into the body’s hopper, the bin returned to its original position, and the arm returned to the stow position. The hopper compactor is to compact the waste into its body shell continuously during the collection cycle. Collection trucks will be dedicated to routes for either right or left side collections and be ordered specifically to maximize efficiencies depending on which side is selected. The truck must empty its compacted waste and recyclables from the body shell via an ejection blade, and have a locking tailgate with secondary lock, all hydraulic, at and from its rear. The trucks are to be compatible with all waste and recycling transfer stations utilized by DSNY. The front of the truck is to be designed to accept and be equipped with an auxiliary electrically powered up/down plow hitch that is compatible with the snowplows utilized by DSNY on its collection trucks. The plow hitch is to have controls mounted in the cab for the driver/operator at the seated driving position and be capable of operation while in motion.
