Specifications include, but are not limited to: Item 1 Magnesium Chloride: 100% Magnesium Chloride in flake or crystal form. Pellets or beads forms are not acceptable. This chemical is used for snow/ice control measures mainly on walkways and door openings. Item 2 Blended Snow and Ice Melt Product: A snow and ice melt blended product that must be effective to -20 to -25o F and consist of a magnesium chloride blend. This product shall have a low corrosive level when applied to surfaces such as cement and sandstone slabs. It will be utilized during emergency situations applied on areas were cement and sandstone slabs meet the sidewalks around facilities, walkways, and in front of garage doors. Item 3 Sodium Chloride (bagged rock salt): 100% Sodium Chloride shall be effective to -15o F. This will generally be used in area’s adjacent to walkways as a snow melting and deicing agent. Item 4 Sodium Formate: Sodium Formate shall comply with the approved specification SAE AMS 1431D (http://standards.sae.org/ams1431d/) for Compound, Solid Runway and Taxiway Deicing/Anti-icing material.
