As part of the Steps to a Healthier New York Campaign, the Rockland County Department of Health will award a grant to fund a graduate course and in-service course entitled 3Rs in Motion. Providers must; have experience working with all nine school districts in Rockland County; have the ability to provide graduate credits; organize, promote, and provide learning opportunities and professional development for all Rockland County teachers; provide technical assistance to teachers; be a non for profit organization; and meet the terms of this RFP. SCOPE Rockland County intends for this Request for Proposal to result in the selection of one provider of an accredited graduate level course, 3Rs in Motion, for elementary classroom teachers in Rockland County. The purpose of this course is to have participants plan and implement movement activities as part of their academic lessons. There is evidence that shows a connection to movement, academic success and better health. Being active can help with maintaining a healthy weight, reducing stress and keeping the mind clear. In order to meet the diverse needs of students both physically and academically, the 3Rs in Motion course addresses brain development, differentiated instruction and methods for incorporating movement into the academic curriculum. The Rockland County Department of Health seeks to reduce death and disability due to chronic disease by initiating targeted lifestyle interventions in the Rockland County Community through the Steps to a HealthierUS Initiative. Current trends show that children are not meeting the daily recommendations for physical activity of 60 minutes. By addressing physical inactivity at the classroom level, teachers will promote physical activity by communicating about its benefits and incorporating movement throughout the day.
