1) The gas chromatograph mass spectrometer (GC/MS) system must consist of these main system modules: a gas chromatograph (GC), a mass spectrometer (MS), a purge-and-trap autosampler, and purge-and-trap concentrator (P&T system), along with a computer to control the instrument. Both the gas chromatograph (GC), and a mass spectrometer (MS) must be manufactured by the same manufacturer. Both the purge-and-trap autosampler and purge-andtrap concentrator must be manufactured by the same manufacturer. 2) The GC/MS system, the purge-and-trap system, and the instrument’s computer and monitor must fit on a standard (70” width by 36” depth) laboratory bench. The purge-and-trap GC/MS system must weigh less than 120 kilograms (265 pounds). 3) The GC/MS system must be installed by the vendor. The vendor must also provide familiarization on instrument operation, basic maintenance, software, producing instrument reports with text files, and creating summary reports for environmental work. 4) The GC/MS system must have an integrated gas chromatograph (GC) designed specifically for the mass spectrometer (MS). 5) The gas chromatograph of the GC/MS system will draw its electrical power from a standard power source (115- 120 VAC (volts), 60 Hz). The gas chromatograph cannot use more than 2400 watts (2.4 kW or 2.4 kVA) of electrical power during operation. 6) The mass spectrometer of the GC/MS system will draw its electrical power from a standard power source (115-120 VAC (volts), 60 Hz). The mass spectrometer cannot use more than 1200 watts (1.2 kW or 1.2 kVA) of electrical power during operation. 7) The mass spectrometer backing (roughing) pump will draw electrical power from a standard power source (115-120 VAC (volts), 60 Hz). The backing pump for the mass spectrometer cannot use more than 850 watts (850 W or 850 VA) of electrical power during operation. 8) The GC/MS system must be designed to utilize ultra-high pure (UHP) helium as the primary carrier gas, but also include the capability to utilize ultra-high pure hydrogen as a carrier gas. 9) The GC/MS system must come with gas filters to remove moisture, oxygen, and hydrocarbons from the UHP helium carrier gas.
