Specifications include, but are not limited to: The contractor will install residential, outdoor compost systems – adjustable and scalable to the site location and the interest of the participant to maintain the system. For example, prefabricated composting bins may be appropriate for those with adequate room and interest in regularly turning the pile. The contractor’s tasks and services under this service agreement shall be completed within one year of contract execution. The scope of services and work to be provide by the contractor are: 1. Install, at no cost to the resident, a composting system at the residence of users of County solid waste convenience centers and provide training regarding the proper use of the composting system. 2. Provide each participant with: a. A small bin for transporting kitchen scraps to the composting system, if applicable; b. If necessary, a shovel or pitchfork if the participant will be turning the compost a pile; c. Sufficient worms (Eisenia foetida or Lumbricus rubellis) if the participant will be vermicomposting; d. Instructional material that addresses, at a minimum, how to properly maintain the compost, including what organic to add, how frequently to water, how to cover, how to turn, how to harvest finished compost, and how to use the soil product. Instruction material will also provide information on troubleshooting, tips for addressing unwanted visitors and three useful additional (e.g. online) resources.
