1) Animal Shelter Veterinary Supervision / Onsite Services 2) Veterinary Consultation 3) Phone Consultation 4) Veterinary Policy and Procedure Support The Proposer must provide veterinary services on a weekly basis including but not limited to maintaining patient medical records in collaboration with shelter staff, making recommendations to facility management concerning isolation of sick animals, cleaning and disinfection procedures for the facility, ventilation, heating, and air conditioning, animal caging, flow of animals and people within the facility, use of personal protection equipment and employee sanitation, record keeping, and all other management practices that impact disease control and animal health under the care of the Trenton Animal Shelter during working business hours (8AM to 4PM Monday through Friday). The awarded Proposer will also provide guidance regarding the specific types of vaccinations administered to each animal, the age for administration, and the timing of any additional vaccinations administered to the animals at the facility. He or she shall also issue prescriptions for all vaccines requiring a prescription treatment or medical support for Trenton Animal Shelter animals. The awarded Proposer must provide up-to-date medical examination and vaccine records for each animal treated as requested by Trenton Animal Shelter personnel veterinary supplies, medications, and vaccinations. The city will be responsible for purchasing all consumable items or equipment required for the Animal Shelter or reimburse the Supervising Veterinarian for any preapproved purchases. The preferred method will be City direct purchase or payment to supplier for items that are received at the shelter when permitted by law. External Veterinary Services (Veterinary Care) 1) All services not permitted or capable of being performed at the animal shelter will be performed for the city at external veterinary facilities. The city will be directly responsible for all invoices from these facilities. 2) If a city animal is brought to a veterinary facility where the Supervising Veterinarian is employed or has ownership, the Supervising Veterinarian will not bill the city for time spent at that facility on animal shelter cases during his/her normally scheduled shifts. If the Supervising Veterinarian performs services at external veterinary facilities during nonscheduled hours and their time is not compensated by that facility, he/she may bill the city for those services. External Veterinary Services (Local Low Cost Spay Neuter) The city will be directly responsible for all invoices from Local Low Cost Spay/Neuter facilities. REQUIRED TASKS 1) Animal Shelter Veterinary Supervision a) Proposer shall provide supervision and guidance on proper policies, procedures, and legal requirements on Animal Shelter operations, animal care and treatment, disease control, and City inquiries on veterinary care at the shelter. b) Proposer shall personally inspect the shelter and animal care areas at least once per month. Offsite inspections through date/time stamped pictures provided by the shelter manager may be used for follow-up to in person inspections or for random unscheduled inspections. c) Proposer shall train designated animal shelter staff in approved chip and microscope methods and procedures for tests and provide authorization letters once the training is successfully completed prior to shelter staff being permitted to perform those procedures. 2) Veterinary Consultation a) Proposer shall provide veterinary consultation in the medical care and treatment of shelter animals.
