The Head/Day Custodian shall: 1. Manage and supervise the maintenance and custodial operations of the school, ensuring that the buildings and grounds of the school are in a clean, up to code and safe condition. 2. Regularly inspect the school and outside grounds / playground to ensure safety, cleanliness, and attractiveness, completing and submitting all required reports. Report immediately any hazards or unsafe conditions to the Principal, Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds and Custodial Manager. 3. Ensure that all applicable fire, safety, health, and environmental regulations and laws are observed and exceeded and that no one works in an unsafe or hazardous condition. 4. Inspect, maintain, clean, change filters and operate the heating, ventilating, HVAC, and other mechanical systems of the building to provide proper temperature appropriate to the season with an economical use of fuel, water, and electricity and in compliance with all regulations regarding safety and efficiency of the systems. 5. Display and maintain all required certificates for the building equipment, including the Black Seal license. 6. Ensure that the school and grounds are clean, attractive, and safe. 7. Make minor repairs and cleaning to the building, building systems, and grounds. 8. Request maintenance and repair work that is beyond the scope of the Head/Day Custodian’s responsibility or expertise, enter work orders into work order system and work with the maintenance personnel to complete work orders. 9. Assist the district maintenance staff with repairs and installations. 10. Maintain an adequate supply of cleaning chemicals, custodial supplies, equipment and tools, requesting replacements in a timely fashion. Provide inventory control to ensure need and proper use, and store supplies and chemicals in a safe and approved manner. 11. Keep assigned areas of the buildings and grounds neat, clean, attractive, and safe, following the specifications and tasks outlined in the Custodial Services Plan, including regular sweeping and moping of floors, dusting of furniture and equipment, washing of windows and blinds, and scrubbing of walls and sanitary fixtures, and as per job description. 12. Clean up body fluids from a sick or injured person, following prescribed procedures. 13. Clean eating areas after each lunch period and during breakfast and lunch period. 14. Remove snow and ice by shoveling, plowing, snow blowing, and/or sanding/salting walks, driveways, parking lots, and steps, contacts custodial crew, as per permission of the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds. 15. As requested, check over the weekend and holidays the building’s security systems, HVAC, boilers, water heaters, water mains, gas mains, electrical mains, windows, and all exit doors of the building are operational, and all panic hardware is working when the building is occupied. 16. Remove graffiti immediately and log vandalism into vandalism logbook and report to Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds and Principal. 17. Report immediately any damage, vandalism, stealing of time, theft of equipment or supplies or board of education property. 18. Remove trash and debris daily and comply with all laws, regulations and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash and waste. Record in logbook and notify Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds. 19. Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and deliveries as required and requested by supervisor. 20. Change lamps/light bulbs and replace them when in need of replacement and recycle old lamps/light bulbs. 21. Raise the United States flag daily, when school is open, no later than 7:30 am and lower between the hours of 4:00 and 5:00 pm, and when notified to lower or fly at half-staff by the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.
