The professional development must satisfy the annual bilingual/ESL training mandate pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:15‑1.8, and the provider must document attendance for district compliance records. The sessions will cover, at a minimum, the following: ● Interpreting WIDA scores. ● Appropriate grading practices for ML students. ● Content‑specific instructional strategies for MLs across all subject areas. ● Adherence to N.J.A.C. 6A:15, including: a. Instructional adaptation strategies (pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:8‑3.1) ensuring access to the NJSLS in all content areas. b. Training on appropriate assessments to help MLs meet the NJSLS and ELD standards. ● Addressing the needs of bilingual and ESL teachers, including training in the use of the ESL curriculum and ELD standards. ● Training for all teachers on ELD standards and providing linguistically and culturally accessible instruction, including appropriate modifications and accommodations for MLs. ● Administrator and supervisor training to meet N.J.A.C. 6A:15‑1.6 requirements for observing and evaluating bilingual/ESL instruction and ensuring the use of best practices for MLs. ● Culturally responsive instruction and equity strategies for MLs. ● Awareness and aptitude development. ● Overview of 8 strategies for ML instruction. ● Model lesson: the language, content, & culture connection.
