Specifications include, but are not limited to: INTENT It is the intention of these specifications to provide to prospective bidders the requirements for The Furnishing and Delivering of Treated Rock Salt as required by The Middlesex County Department of Public Works, Division of Highways. D 2.0 REQUIREMENTS 1. Sodium Chloride in the form of Rock Salt shall conform to ASTM Designation D632-72 for type 1 except that the Rock Salt shall be treated with an anti caking agent YPS (Yellow Prussiate of Soda) at a rate of 2# per ton, shall be in bulk form and contain at the time of delivery, not more than .5 percent moisture when dried at 105 Degree C (221 F) to constant weight. Representative sampling will be made at the rail siding or the suppliers storage location prior to delivery. Salt shall be tested by taking a total 20 lbs from 3 different spots. 2. The Sodium Chloride, when dried to constant weight as specified above, shall conform to the following requirements as to chemical composition. Sodium Chloride (NaC1), Minimum 97.0% insoluble in boiling distilled water Max 1.0%, 3. The Sodium Chloride, when dried as specified above, shall conform to the following requirements as determined by laboratory sieves. Total Percent Passing Sieves Minimum Maximum 1/8 inch 100 --- No. 3 90 100 No. 8 5 35 No. 30 0 5 The sieve analysis shall be in accordance with the applicable provisions of current ASSHO designation T27 or the most recent updates thereto. Lots represented by samples containing more than .5% moisture shall be subject to a deduction of 1% of the delivered price for each % or fraction thereof. Moisture shall be calculated and reported to the nearest one tenth of a percent. Lots represented by samples containing (97% NaC1 shall be subject to a deduction of 0.5% from the delivered price for (97% but not 90%) and each succeeding 0.5% below minimum requirements shall be subject to an additional 0.5% deductions from delivered price. 20,000 Tons of Bulk Rock Salt is required by the Department of Department of Public Works, Division of Highways.
