The Work consists of construction and the provision of a two-story laboratory facility of approximately 13,200 square feet. The facility consists of a general research laboratory on the first floor, a 50-gpm pilot plant laboratory on the first floor with a partial second floor, and a microbiology laboratory on the second floor. Additional spaces include office/cubicle spaces, a meeting room, storage rooms, and a maintenance room with chase to a rooftop penthouse for building support systems. The Work includes improvements to accommodate the new building location in the existing Water Quality Laboratory interpretive courtyard consisting of demolition of the pedestrian bridge, demolition and modification of the existing retaining walls to facilitate the installation of the building support columns, demolition of the access gate and a portion of the courtyard screening wall, and relocation of the potable water pipeline in the interpretive courtyard. Work also includes modifications to site landscaping and irrigation, site lighting, site parking and accessibility, raw water supply and return systems with the chiller and boiler units for the new building’s HVAC system, and installation of a backup electrical supply and communication systems.
