3.1 General: The City of Hastings (Owner) is accepting bids for the supply of materials and installation of a new enclosure on the bottom ash bunker platform for Whelan Energy Center, Unit 1 in Hastings, Nebraska. The bidder is strongly encouraged to visit with Hastings prior to submitting a bid. The Bidder shall inform themselves of all conditions and factors which would affect the execution of the work. No claims for financial compensation or time extension, based on the lack of such prior information (or its effect on the cost of the work) will be permitted by the Owner. Please contact Brandon Miller, Mechanical Engineer, at 402-462-3653 if you have any questions about this project or would like to set up a visit. 3.2 Description of the Project: Whelan Energy Center, Unit 1 (WEC1) is an 82 megawatt (MW), pulverized coal-fired generating plant located near Hastings, Nebraska. The Unit began commercial operation in 1981. The boiler is equipped with a submerged grind conveyor system that takes the bottom ash from the Unit 1 boiler out of the plant through two conveyors where it is dewatered and dropped into a bunker. The head of conveyor 2 consists of a platform area on top of a concrete bunker. Due to maintenance and weather concerns during the winter, the owner is extending structural steel above the existing platform, enclosing the top with a roof and insulated metal panels, adding an insulated metal panel separation under checker plate flooring, and adding corrugated metal siding around the sides of the lower portion of the bunker above the concrete walls. 3.3 Scope of Work Performed Under This Contract: The contractor shall perform the following scope of work: • Demolition of existing (Sheet S101) o Grating at top of stair landing – demo and replace with new o Grating at middle stair landing – demo and reuse o Grating SW corner top of platform – demo o Guardrail on all four sides at top of platform – demo o Structural steel SW corner top of platform o Stairs – to be removed and relocated 2’-0” to the west to allow landing for walk-in door at top landing • Foundations o Supply and Install Extension of footing at bottom of stairs (Sheet S100, S500) Includes excavating, concrete, rebar, and dowels into existing footing • Stair Relocation (Sheet S102, S202) o Stairs to be moved 2’-0” west, existing columns supporting middle landing to remain in current location. o Includes adding new structural steel stringer extensions, grating, guardrail extension, and all other hardware and connections • Supply and Install New Structural Steel (S102, S103, S200, S201) o Middle stair landing o Top stair landing
