The City of Norfolk is seeking proposals from qualified outdoor warning siren contractors to: • Furnish, install, dispose and replace three locations including sirens, poles and electrical connection in the current outdoor warning siren system • Poles are to be 50’ Class II wood poles for replacement SIREN AND CONTROLLER SPECIFICATIONS All sirens will have two-way radio control and battery backup with local activation switches at each site in a locked box mounted to the pole. The City of Norfolk is accepting bids for the following items: Quantity of three (3) electro-mechanical sirens and radio controllers meeting the following criteria: Rotating or Omni-Directional Siren – adjustable rotation speed of 2 to 6 RPM, sound level 130bdc of sound [+/-3dB(C)] to at least 45 feet above ground Siren operating minimum voltage of 48 volts DC Controls should have the ability to use local Utility Supply Voltage 208/240/480 volt single or 3 phase AC control will supply 120 or 240 AC to DC control for battery backup charging purposes Battery backup system with integrated charger, pole mounted – battery box may contain a minimum of four deep cell batteries commonly available from any automotive battery vendor Battery box must power siren for no less than 30 minutes on full charge when power fails Operating Temperature 35 degrees below zero to 140 degrees above zero (F) The effects of precipitation (rain, ice or snow) should not hinder the operation of the siren The siren must have maintenance free sealed bearings; the siren head as a whole should require no standard maintenance and it should require that the siren motor, itself, be continuous duty and maintenance free All conduit used must be rigid or IMC
