Specifications include, but are not limited to: CLEANUP The contractor shall pick up, remove, and dispose of all paper, bottles, cans, tree branches under two (2) inches diameter, trash, and all other debris including trash receptacles, from all areas designated in the Limits of Maintenance Plan. The contractor shall perform a cleanup at intervals of once each week from 1 Apr to 31 Oct (to coincide with mowing) and once monthly from November 1 to March 31. Trash will be picked up and not mowed over. There is ONE trash can at Discovery Park that will be emptied every time the grass is mowed and on the same day, regardless of how much trash is in the can and once monthly throughout the winter. However, if any particular part of the maintenance plan becomes littered to an unusual extent between cleanup intervals, to include storm damage, the contractor shall perform a cleanup of that particular area. Grass clippings shall be cleaned off by the contractor from all signs, planters, structures, curbs and walks upon completion of each mowing. Tree branches exceeding two (2) inches in girth will be consolidated and left at the nearest curb for pickup by the City. The CFI will be notified of tree pile locations in the progress report.; MOWING & TRIMMING The grass shall be mowed as scheduled and approved by the City. In general, the grass shall be mowed when it exceeds 5 inches in height and shall be mowed to a height of 3 to 3 1/2 inches. Generally, mowing shall commence by April 15. Generally, mowing shall end by October 31. These dates are subject to change at the sole discretion of the CFI. The maximum number of mows cannot exceed 24 in any calendar year. Therefore, mowing in the months of July and August will occur every ten days or bi-weekly and shall not exceed 6 times for the two months. Mowers will have turf-type tires. Mower blades will be the “Gator” type to maximize the mulching effect and will be sharp at the beginning of all scheduled mows. The CFI or his agent may request an inspection of mower blades at any time. All kick-out doors of the mowers shall face away from landscape beds and streets. For instances where either is unavoidable, the chute will be pointed towards the street, and the street will be blown off in a way to avoid grass clippings from being blown into the landscape beds. Side discharge mowers are preferable for their mulching effect of leaves in the fall. If rear discharge mowers are used by the contractor then additional passes will be required to adequately mulch leaves.; GRANULAR FERTILIZER WITH PRE-EMERGENT Fertilizer with pre-emergent shall be applied once each year to the areas designated in the Limits of Maintenance. Fertilizer with pre-emergent shall contain the active ingredient Prodiamine or Dithiopyr (Barricade or Dimension) or an approved generic equivalent of either. The same fertilizer will have an N-P-K rating of no less than 12-0-0. The active ingredient amount of Prodiamine or its approved equivalent will not be less than .37%. The active ingredient amount of Dithiopyr will not be less than .15%. The fertilizer with Prodiamine shall not be applied before March 15 and not later than April 15 and before soil temperatures reach 55 degrees. The fertilizer with Dithiopyr shall not be applied before March 15 and not after 1 May and before the soil temperatures reach 55 degrees. The application shall occur Monday-Friday only unless prior arrangements are made with the CFI. The need or desire for any additional granular fertilizer applications will be determined on a case by case basis at the discretion of the CFI. If additional applications are requested, the Contractor will bill the City in the same manner as other work. The City reserves the right to change the weed control product prior to future extensions on the contract. If this option is exercised and before the extension is offered, an agreement on price will be made between the Contractor and the City through the CFI and the agreement will be added to the contract.; LIQUID WEED CONTROL A blanket application of broadleaf weed control spray shall be done once a year during the spring or fall to curtail broadleaf weeds in the areas designated in the Limits of Maintenance Plan. The weed control product used shall be 2-4d with Dicamba. Contractor shall coordinate with the CFI all application dates of any kind at least one week in advance of the application and relay any changes leading up to the day of the application. The application shall occur Monday-Friday only unless prior arrangements are made with the CFI. The need or desire for any additional liquid herbicide applications will be determined on a case by case basis at the discretion of the CFI. If additional liquid herbicide applications are requested, the Contractor will bill the City in the same manner as other work. The City reserves the right to change the weed control product prior to future extensions on the contract. If this option is exercised and before the extension is offered, an agreement on price will be made between the Contractor and the City through the Chief Field Inspector and the agreement will be added to the contract.; OVERSEED In the event that turf needs to be overseeded, the CFI will request an onsite meeting with the Contractor to outline the area(s) needing overseeding. For the CFI to request over seeding by the Contractor the affected area(s) shall be no less than 5,000 sq ft (combined). No aerating will be required. NE certified, Super Turf II seed or an approved equivalent will be supplied by the Contractor. Applications of seed will take place in the fall or spring. Fall overseed will occur in the month of September. Spring overseed will occur between 15 Mar and 15 Apr. The rate of application will not be less than 10 lbs per 1,000 sq ft. The contractor shall notify the Chief Field Inspector via email or phone not less than 1 hour prior to the application of seed. Failure to perform this step will result in non-payment.
