Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Equipment • A truck and or tractor boom application system shall be used for road edges. All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) with boomless sprayer are also suitable for road edges, log landings and offroad sites that are safely accessible or can be reached with handline applicator as needed. Equipment shall have the capabilities to apply herbicide in a minimum 15 feet from the road edge on either side of equipment and up to 10 feet vertical for coverage of road cutslopes. The full width of road turnout areas and log landings shall also be sprayed. • A backpack sprayer is required to access certain sites. • All equipment shall be in good mechanical shape and will be inspected prior to work. The spray pattern will be checked prior to starting the job and thereafter if deemed necessary by FWP. • An adjustable boom (height) or boomless nozzles that can be directed to allow spraying road cutslopes at the optimum height is required. • The spray vehicles shall be equipped with a hand gun and hose capable of accessing areas that require more detailed spray applications. • A tight-fitting lid on all spray tanks is required. • Applicators shall select nozzles and other technology to minimize drift and the potential for non-target effects. Nozzles shall be new or nearly new at the time of the original Notice to proceed and of stainless steel or ceramic material. • The contractor shall inspect all spray equipment for leaks on a daily basis. • The contractor is required to have a saw. Roads may have toppled and blown down trees across roads that require the contractor to complete chainsaw work and clearing roads as necessary for spraying. Contractors should be expecting some chainsaw work. 2. Herbicide Application Equipment • Spraying shall be performed by a licensed commercial applicator/operator, who shall be on site at all times during application. All equipment must be calibrated at the spray site to ensure accurate rate of coverage • The contractor shall provide FWP with daily herbicide application reports according to Montana Department of Agriculture regulations. The contractor will provide a GPS record of areas sprayed, to determine the total, final acreage sprayed. FWP will provide a map. • All herbicide applications shall follow EPA label requirements. • Mixing of herbicides. Contractor shall mix the herbicide only at locations which prevent contamination of any stream or other body of water with the herbicide. Contractor will test the mix water for hardness and pH and buffer the water as needed for the best solution of herbicide. Contractor shall rinse each herbicide container three (3) times with oil or water, whichever is the agent used to dilute the particular herbicide, and each rinsing shall be placed in a spray tank for application on target. • Weather conditions will be monitored before and during all spray projects. Spraying will not be allowed when any of the following conditions occurs: Temperature >85o , Wind Speed >7 mph and rain expected within 6 hours. • No herbicide shall be applied directly to water.
