The City of Keego Harbor has a shallow .5 acre detention pond at 2025 Beechmont St, and a shallow canal which connects to Cass Lake, 40'W x 750' L, in Fran Leaf Park near 3045 Atlas St. The goal of this project is to improve the quality of the water in support of wildlife and possibly recreational use. They have significant buildups of sludge from years of attempting to control eurasian milfoil and other pond weeds. The pond was last dredged in 2009. The canal has not been dredged to our knowledge. The City is requesting proposals for a treatment plan that will preclude the need to dredge by A) treating the milfoil in an MDEQ-approved product and manner with an aim to eradicate it over a few years' time, at least in the pond, and B) bacterial augmentation in an MDEQ-approved product and manner to reduce the existing sludge as rapidly as possible. There are fountains in these bodies of water which may provide sufficient aeration for bacterial augmentation to be effective, but no testing of water chemistry has been done. Therefore the proposals should include testing of standard water chemistry including dissolved oxygen. Please include the permitting required for these activities, the products, rates, and quantities being proposed, the proposed schedule of applications, and the expected range of outcomes over time.
