PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Charter Township of Oakland is requesting proposals for painting several historic buildings at Cranberry Lake Farm Historic District (CLF). There are areas that require wood rot repair and glazing. The Contractor must be licensed and insured.

MANDATORY SITE VISIT and SIGN IN: Tuesday, May 13 from 4:00 to 4:45 PM  Located at 388 West Predmore Road, Oakland, MI 48363. For questions and/or directions, please email or call Barb 248-608-6807 (office land line). The site walk will detail all the wood repair areas. Please sign in with an email and phone number.
THE PROPOSAL SHALL INCLUDE:

1. Business name, address, phone number, email, and contact person.
2. Cost of the work for painting using Sherwin Williams paint spec.
3. Include the cost of paint in your proposal.
4. Cost of the work involved for wood repair using cedar wood to match existing.
5. Project duration and when you expect to have the project started and completed.
6. Include warranty for product and for work.
7. Include your liability insurance coverage that meets Township requirements *See attached

CONTRACTOR INSTRUCTIONS:
 

Wood Repairs will be covered in the site walk on Tues May 13 at 4:00PM.
Areas: Main House, Caretaker House Porch, Carraige Barn window Trim, Hen House window trim, Hatchling House, Spring House Green House.
Exterior Wall - Peeling Wood Products
Preparation for peeling wood (siding, trim, doors, and around windows)

• Scrape off all the peeling paint
• Gentle power washing of loose paint cannot damage the wood boards.
• Sand the remaining paint to a feather edge with 60-grit sandpaper
• Kill any mildew on the old paint with a mixture of diluted bleach and dish soap, then rinse thoroughly

Application  

• Solid Wood Stain

• Follow the preparation procedures as per the manufacturer’s instructions

• Application Do’s

• Apply when the surface and temperature is 50 degrees F to 95 degrees F
• Saturate all end grains – if exposed
• Maintain a wet edge
• Apply in the direction of the wood grain
• Intermix batches to ensure color consistency
• Apply with nylon polyester brush, roller or by spraying. If spraying a second coat should be rolled over.

• Application Don’ts

• Do not apply in direct sunlight
• Do not apply when the surface is hot to touch
• Do not apply when dew, rain, or frost is present or expect within five hours
• Do not apply when the moisture content of the wood is greater than 18%
