Oakland Township Parks and Recreation is seeking sealed bids from experienced and qualified contractors to provide woody vegetation management at Stony Creek Ravine Nature Park using a forestry mulcher or similar equipment. Sealed bids will be received at the Oakland Township offices at 4393 Collins Rd, Rochester, MI 48306 until September 29, 2023, at 2:30 P.M., Local Time.

The submission of a sealed bid by a contractor shall be considered evidence that the contractor is satisfied with respect to the conditions to be encountered and the character, quantity and quality of the work to be performed.

Oakland Township Parks and Recreation officially distributes bid documents from the Oakland Township office, 4393 Collins Rd, Rochester, MI 48306, the Oakland Township website (www.oaklandtownship.org) or through BidNet (www.bidnetdirect.com/mitn). Copies of bid documents obtained from any other source are not considered official copies. A recommended pre-bid meeting will be held September 18, 2023 at 11:00 am. Meet at Stony Creek Ravine Nature Park, 1465 East Snell Road, Rochester, MI 48306 to view areas representative of the work areas at this park. The entrance is a two track on the north side of Snell Road, leading to a small, mowed parking area. Meet in the mowed parking area.

Background
The purpose of this solicitation is to identify a contractor who will work in a professional manner to control woody vegetation using forestry mowing/mulching at Stony Creek Ravine Nature Park and Draper Twin Lake Park. Work may begin after November 1, 2023 and must be completed by December 31, 2023. A hydro-ax, tracked skid loader with mulching head, or similar equipment should be used to shred woody vegetation. The not-to-exceed project budget is $25,000.

The project sites includes natural areas with rolling terrain, with patchy to thick infestations of non-native invasive woody plants, including autumn olive, common buckthorn, glossy buckthorn, oriental bittersweet. Brush and small trees at the site were previously mowed in phases between 2016 and 2018. The goals for managing woody vegetation are to facilitate user access along trails and to maintain open grassland and savanna habitat.
