Specifications include, but are not limited to: The State Emergency Management Agency’s (SEMA) mission statement is “to help out fellow Missourians prepare for, respond to, and recover from all emergencies.” Support of this mission encompasses natural disasters, as well as manmade disasters (also known as technological emergencies), and non-emergencies. Natural disasters that SEMA responds to include the following: Major snow; Ice storms; Floods; Tornadoes; Coronavirus pandemic; Severe weather; and/or The threat of a serious earthquake along Missouri’s New Madrid Fault. Manmade disasters that SEMA responds to include the following: Hazardous material incidents; Incidents of terrorism; Nuclear power plant accidents; and Radiological hazards. SEMA is responsible for the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), which coordinates the response efforts between the following: Local emergency managers; Elected officials; State agencies; Volunteer organizations; and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) resources, in case of Presidential Declaration, during an emergency incident or event and/or disaster.
