Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1.0 Treated salt is a mixture of sodium chloride, blended with a Clear Roads qualified products list (QPL) approved corrosion inhibited liquid magnesium chloride-based product for anti-icing or deicing. The magnesium chloride based product will also contain an agricultural processing residue that will decrease corrosiveness of the overall compound as well as prevent leaching of the treating solution. Agriculture Processing Residue Products (APRP) are the concentrated liquid residues from the processing of grains and other agricultural products. They are derived from the processing of agricultural raw materials, primarily corn and beets. The liquid residues are typically combined with chloride solutions and/or rock salt and the resulting mixture is applied to road surfaces and bridge decks for the purpose of anti-icing or de-icing. 2.0 Anti-caking agents are not required in regular road salt that is used for CORROSION INHIBITED/TREATED road salt. 3.0 The resulting treated salt shall be not less than 91.2% Sodium chloride, when tested in accordance with MoDOT Test Method T32 included in Annex A of this specification. 4.0 The application rate shall be one (1) ton of salt mixed with seven (7) gallons, plus or minus (+/-) one-half (1/2) gallon of Clear Roads QPL approved corrosion inhibited liquid magnesium. Certification must be provided that the rock salt sodium chloride used was 2% or less in moisture content prior to mixing with the liquid magnesium. The treated salt must have a dried weight reduction of no more than 3% tested in accordance with AASHTO T255 Total Moisture Content of Aggregates by Drying included in Annex C of this specification, with drying temperatures not exceeding 150 degrees Fahrenheit. The percent magnesium for the final mixed product shall not be less than 0.9%. 5.0 Properly stored products (covered or inside) shall not have objectionable leaching or separation of components to the extent that such condition produces adverse affects in the handling or usage of the product or routine maintenance of the storage facility. 6.0 The moisture content at the delivery point shall not exceed 2.0 percent based on dry weight.
