Specifications include, but are not limited to: (1) All Red-Yellow Indication Automated Flagging Assistance Devices, hereinafter referred to as an AFAD, shall be designed and manufactured in accordance with this specification. (2) AFADs enable a flagger(s) to be positioned out of the lane of traffic and are used to control road users through temporary traffic control zones. These devices are designed to be remotely operated either by a single flagger at one end of the Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) zone or at a central location, or by separate flaggers near each device’s location. (3) AFADs on a movable cart system shall be either MASH or NCHRP 350 crash worthy. (a) MoDOT will prioritize the MASH complaint AFAD before the NCHRP 350 compliant AFAD.
