Description: This work shall consist of furnishing a street name sign, which is internally illuminated with light emitting diodes, and installing the sign on a traffic signal mast arm or span wire. The work will require signs at each of the two (2) intersections listed below: First Capitol Dr at West Clay St (4 signs) N Fifth St/S Fifth St at Jefferson St (4 signs) There will be two “First Capitol Dr” signs, two “West Clay St” signs, two “Jefferson St” signs, and two “N Fifth St/S Fifth St” signs. See the Special Notes below for more info on the two “N Fifth St/S Fifth St” signs. Specifications: The LED Street Name Sign shall be one of the following approved models: Temple Edge-Lit Flip Southern Manufacturing Clean Profile Traffic Signs, Inc. Slimline Illuminated street name signs shall be internally illuminated and furnished with one message panel. The illuminated LED sign shall include the sign housing, reflectors, sign panels, seals, LED’s, photoelectric controls, conductors, terminal blocks and compartments, mounting assemblies, and painting when specified. Each sign shall be a rigid mounted unit attached to a steel traffic mast arm. The visual opening of the sign assembly shall be standard widths of 15, 18, or 24 inches, and standard lengths of 48 – 120 inches, at 24” increments. The sign shall be equipped with a swing down door sign face. The swing down door shall have two (2) lockable hasps fastened at the top of the sign. The sign shall have a polycarbonate panel that is UV, weather, abrasion and impact resistant. The sign panel shall be replaceable 3M Diamond Grade (ASTM Type IX) retroreflective sheeting shall be used for all sign legend and background surfaces. The Street Name shall be white letters on a blue background with City Logo on the left hand side of the sheet. All exterior metal surfaces of the sign housing shall be powder coated black by the supplier/manufacturer. The electrical sign components shall be UL listed and the light emitting diodes shall have a documented life span of 60,000 hours to 70% of the initial brightness. The light source for the sign shall be LED’s that are mounted along the top and bottom edges of the sign. The LED’s shall evenly illuminate a light panel that is the same dimensions of the sign face. The sign shall be designed and constructed to withstand a minimum of 110 mph wind loads. The sign and power supply should be able to withstand and operate at temperature extremes of - 40 deg F to +140 deg F. The manufacturer shall warranty the entire sign, including all components, for a period of at least five (5) years from the date of installation. The Contractor shall provide a copy of the warranty to the Traffic Engineer upon request. Installation: The contractor shall furnish the required mounting hardware. The LED Street Name Sign shall be installed with a single-sided fixed mount using a mounting bracket compatible with the sign model and manufacture. All holes drilled into signal poles, mast arms, or posts shall require rubber grommets to prevent the chafing of wires. The signs shall not be energized when traffic signals are powered by an alternate energy source such as a generator or uninterruptable power source (UPS). All signs at the intersection shall be activated by a common photocell installed in the controller cabinet. NOTE: Bid amount for the project must include the work to install a photo cell on the cabinet for the illuminated street names if a controller cabinet does not currently have one.
