The goal is to ensure consistency, performance, scalability, and ease of support. 4.1 Horizontal Cabling • Minimum Category: Cat6 (Cat6A preferred for futureproofing) • Standard: T568B • Max Cable Length: 90 meters (295 feet), plus 10 meters (33 feet) patch cables • Cable Type: UTP (use shielded where EMI is present) • Service Loop: minimum 20-foot service loop in the ceiling at the station, and 10-foot loop in the wiring closet, provided the total does not exceed 295 feet. • Color Coding Standard: • Bend Radius: o UTP: 4x cable diameter (approx. 1 inch for Cat6) o Shielded: 8x cable diameter • Support Spacing: o Per ANSI/TIA-568 Series: All Category 6 UTP cables shall be installed in JHooks and/or cable trays with a max of 1.5 meters (5 feet) between supports o Inside data / electrical closets Panduit Ladder racks are to be used. o Outdoor Cat6 runs and any exposed cabling must be in EMT conduit. • Wall Penetrations: o If installation requires the need to penetrate a wall, that penetration must be sleeved, in conduit, use Unistrut, and Unistrut straps. o If installation requires penetrating a fire rated wall, fire caulk must be used.
