• Serve as general counsel for the Biloxi Public School District (BPSD). • Attend school board meetings on the third Tuesday of each month. • Attend any special called meetings and work sessions of the BPSD on an “as needed” basis as requested by the Superintendent or BPSD. • Review and make recommendation on all items on BPSD meeting agendas and meeting minutes. • Render legal opinions upon request by the BPSD, Superintendent, and/or their designee. • Provide legal assistance in preparing, reviewing and/or negotiating all legal documentation on behalf of the District. • Provide legal assistance in drafting policies, rules and regulations, and procedures as requested. • Advise and if necessary actively represent BPSD in any litigation in which the district is a party. The BPSD reserves the right to utilize alternate legal counsel should they so choose. • AdviseBPSD,Superintendent,andotherdistrict administrationon the legalities related to school district operations and give such written opinions as may be deemed necessary. • Prepare and/or review all contracts as directed to do so by the BPSD, the Superintendent, and/or their designee. • Review and advise regarding notices and specifications for bidders as needed. • Prepare and reviewall construction contracts,performance bonds,maintenance bonds, and all other documents required by MS statute and/or BPSD policy. • Provide legal services on property issues and advise on acquisition of real estate including title examination. • Prepare resolutions, deeds, leases, conveyances, bond obligations, and other legal instruments relating to the business of the BPSD as shall be required and construct such correspondence inconnectiontherewithasmaybenecessary toadvance such matters or as may be requested by the BPSD, Superintendent, and/or their designee. • Advise the BPSD and staff regarding the impact of judicial decisions that affect the school district. • Provide legal opinion and guidance on student related issues including but not limited to residency, custody, special education, and discipline. • Coordinate and assist with student and employee hearings which come before the BPSD. • Provide legal opinion and guidance, at the request of the BPSD, Superintendent, and/or their designee, on issues related to employment, public records requests, contracts, public purchasing/bids, and special education law. • Support BPSDpolicy and actions to the public and staff. • Provide all services in a timely manner, without unreasonable delays. • Maintain a high standard of ethics, honesty, and integrity in all personal and professional matters. • Perform such other legal services as may be requested by the BPSD, Superintendent and/or their designee.
