Specifications include, but are not limited to: •Restore continuous ground vegetation by strategically thinning trees and shrubs and seeding native grasses; and •Remove buckthorn and similar undesirable woody material to increase light intensity at the ground layer and increase ground vegetative cover and diversity; and •Enhance the view sheds of the Minnesota River Valley; and •Enhance habitat for native wildlife and plants; and •Integrate ecological restoration, outdoor recreation and public participation programs; •Increase the probability of natural oak regeneration and survival; and •Expand the oak savanna restoration work currently underway at the Pond Dakota Mission-Hopkins Landing site immediately west of the Parker’s Picnic Grounds; and •Establish a publicly-accessible oak savanna restoration demonstration site on protected municipal Minnesota River bluff property in proximity to the Twin Cities metropolitan area and the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge.
