Specifications include, but are not limited to: ‐ Must be certified by the American Farrier Association as a Journeyman Farrier. Additional certifications are preferred. ‐ Must be able to have all Police Horses on a shoeing rotation and make weekly visits to the Minneapolis Police Barn located at 4505 County Rd 92 Maple Plain MN. ‐ Must be able to trim and keep between 10 and 14 horses shod from April through December. ‐ Must have a mobile forge. ‐ Must be available for emergency response to either the Police Barn or the City of Minneapolis. Depending on the situation, this response could be required on any day of the week or at any time of day. ‐ Must have the ability to work with the Mounted Unit’s Veterinarian Service (Currently Anoka Equine) to create any appliances necessary to meet the needs of each horse. This will include trimming, fabrication or alteration of horseshoes, application of pads, acrylics, or support materials.
