The Minnesota Zoo requests proposals from a qualified artist, graphic designer, firm, or team to design, fabricate and install themed graphic and/or artistic surface treatments for the three walls of the reading nook area in the childrens space known as the Beehive. The Beehive is a learning and play space designed for very young children (ages 1-3). The room has play elements reminiscent of a hive, bee-themed activities, and a graphic wall treatment that has a prairie feel to it. The reading nook area of the space has plain painted walls (one concrete block) see Appendix A and B on the informal soliciation. The Zoo would like to make the reading nook space extra special by dressing up the walls and possibly adding scenic, dimensional elements. The theme of the reading nook space will stay along the lines of either a beehive or prairie scene, but could vary a little (it might be night in the reading nook, or underground, for example). Colors, fonts and styles should also coordinate with the existing design in the Beehive, as shown in Appendix C of the informal solicitation. The dcor should have some level of interactivity, through poetry, a hidden-picture game, or picture flips. Any interactivity should be designed with toddlers in mind, with extremely durable and washable materials. No additional specifications were given.
