The College of Science & Engineering’s (CSE) School of Mathematics proposes to repurpose the former 6,296 square foot math library space into student-forward facing space including study, collaboration, graduate student workspace and private tutoring. The renovation will allow the Mathematics Program to create: Open teaching assistant space primarily used for group meetings Study space for mathematic department users Office space for master students with touchdown stations Vincent Hall was built in 1938 in the neo-classical style on the southeast portion of Northrop Mall and has been the home of Mathematics for its entire lifespan. A 1968 addition added two wings and 3 additional stories. Combined, the building is 85,424 gross square feet and consists of faculty offices and general-purpose classrooms. A 2024 study of the building’s infrastructure indicated that the 1968 curtain wall system is in very poor condition and Facilities Management reports that the system is actively leaking. This Project combines the curtain wall system replacement at the east side of the headhouse where the math library is located with the repurpose of the two-story library space. The replacement of the 1968 curtain wall system requires hazardous material abatement, interior finishes replacement where impacted, and new fireproofing. The library repurpose includes new interior finishes and furniture with minimal wall reconstruction and code required ADA upgrades. Selected Respondent will be required to provide pricing to remove stairs between 3rd and 4th floor stacks. Refer to Alternate # 1 details noted on page 61 of the Vincent Hall Math Library Predesign document.
