MnDOT’s bicycle and pedestrian guidance documents were published in 2020 and 2022 respectively. While both periodically receive minor, interim updates the publication of the Fifth Edition of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Guide for the Development of Bicycle Facilities and the 11th Edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) present an opportunity to refresh them. This project includes the development of new content and revision to existing content for the Bicycle Facility Design Manual and Chapter 8 of the Facility Design Guide (aka the bike and ped manuals). This includes the development of text, figures and tables, and photography of real world infrastructure. As a national leader in bicycle and pedestrian facility planning and design, MnDOT has several plans and policies that support and inform bike/ped design. This effort will include creating connections between both manuals as well as connections with the recently updated complete streets policy and handbook and the on-going Statewide Bicycle+ System Plan. The manuals will remain stand-alone documents.
