Specifications include, but are not limited to: provide support and education services for Minneapolis parents of adolescents (children ages 10-18) that align with the goals of the City’s Blueprint for Action to Prevent Youth Violence. Services are intended to increase parent knowledge, motivation, and capacity to use effective parenting strategies and to provide parents with the support needed to position them to successfully implement those strategies. Programs proposing to use funds to provide services to youth will not be funded. A lack of positive engagement between parents/caregivers and youth increases youths’ risk for poor decision-making and behavior. Teaching family management skills, effective behavior response, stress management, and effective communication to parents of adolescents reduces peer conflict, aggression, delinquency and substance use and results in youth who are more resilient, have the skills to make better decisions, demonstrate better overall health outcomes, and are more likely to contribute positively to their communities.
