The contractor will furnish all labor, tools, materials, equipment, and all else necessary to legally and correctly seal one groundwaterwell(environmentalwell)asspecified. The contractor must be registered and licensed with the Minnesota Department of Health as a Well Contractor. The project consists of permanently sealing MN Unique Well #870216 at the DNR Lands and Minerals Drill Core Library site, 1525 Third Avenue East, Hibbing, MN. See attached map on page 50 for site location. The well was installed into the Biwabik Iron bedrock formation in 2023. The well is constructed of 4-inch diameter welded steel casing to 310 feet. Below the casing, a 3-inch diameter open hole was advanced to a total depth of 561 feet. However, the open hole is currently obstructed with slumping shaley material from approximately 330 feet to approximately 380 feet. The open hole was more competent from approximately 380 feet to 561 feet, so this lower interval is believed to remain open. In order to properly seal the well, the contractor will need to clean out the blockage from approximately 330 feet to approximately 380 feet using a NQ™ size coring (or equivalent) drilling method, so the well can be properly sealed throughout its full depth.
