Applications must include plans to collect, redistribute, and/or process food that would have been discarded. Food recovery activities must be within Hennepin County. Services are to develop new or expand current collection of edible food destined to be discarded and redistribute this food to feed people. Anticipated outcomes of food recovery services include an increase in the redistribution of surplus food to those in need and decrease in the amount of food being sent to landfills and incinerators. Eligible applicants - Applicants should be experienced in collection and redistribution of surplus food, although applicants with new ideas and projects are encouraged to apply. Applicants must: Be an eligible organization: food shelf or food recovery organization; Have collection and distribution sites located in Hennepin County; Be in “active/in good standing” status with the Minnesota Secretary of State. Ineligible organizations: Individuals, home-based businesses, government organizations and private businesses unless partnered with a food shelf or food recovery organization. Eligible expenses and reimbursement process - Funds for food recovery services must be used to develop or expand collection and redistribution of edible food destined for disposal. Eligible food recovery expenditures: Storage infrastructure directly related to food recovery activities, including: Energy Star rated appliances, such as refrigerators/freezers and installation costs; Leased or rented space; and/or Shelving, reusable totes, and bins.
