Project Description The goal of this project is to cut, chip, and remove hazardous trees and fallen trees resulting from a blowdown event in May 2025. The contract area is around 1 acre in size. An estimated 15 standing trees (pine, spruce, balsam) will need to be cut and will be flagged, the rest of the project area will involve cutting and chipping trees that have blown over. Materials must be chipped and hauled off-site. Construction fences and or barricades will need to be installed to block off sections of the Gitchi-Gami State Trail, the upper parking lot, access from the beach, and the gravel trail. Project Specifications and Contractor Responsibilities: • Cut flagged trees (estimated 15 standing trees), low stump less than 6” off the ground. Trees to be cut will be flagged by DNR. • Low stump any trees that were previously cut onsite less than 6” off the ground • Reset exposed root wads and low stump less than 6” off the ground • Cut and chip all tree tops and other sizeable materials left from the blowdown event or from when we reopened the access trails in May. • Minimize ground disturbance by operating only on dry soil conditions. Cease operations if rutting or other site damage occurs. • Keep existing trails and roads free of debris. • Ensure public safety while chipping and hauling operations occur. Coordinate with Two Harbors Staff to ensure signs are posted to indicate equipment operations. • Before entering and leaving the site, be sure all equipment trailers and personal gear are free of caked mud, dirt clods and reproducitve plant parts (seeds, berries, cones, flower or seed salks, and roots). Follow other actions as stated in the harvest specifications or as directed by the project administrator or park manager to minimize the introduction and/or spread of invasive species. • No equipment is allowed outside of the designated clearing area or access routes. • Staging for equipment will be in the upper parking lot. • Gravel path needs to be smoothed, graded, and free of any woody debris after completing the work. • Follow all other actions as directed by project administrator.
